6 December 2006 ( - Paper Clips, the moving and inspiring documentary film about the Holocaust told from the perspective of students and teachers of a small school in Tennessee will be available to buy on DVD from 22nd January 2007. The DVD is being released to coincide with ‘Holocaust Memorial Day’ on 27th January and serves as a timely reminder of the lessons to be learned from this period of history.

The citizens of Whitwell, a small, rural community of less than two thousand people, nestled in the mountains of Tennessee, are almost exclusively white and Christian. In 1998, the children of the town’s only school took on an astonishing project, launched out of their Head Teacher’s desire to help her students open their eyes to the diversity of the world beyond their insulated valley. What began as a grassroots initiative would eventually snowball to such an extent that it would resonate across the globe, attracting worldwide media coverage.

Paper Clips captures how these students responded to lessons about the Holocaust-with a promise to honour every lost soul by collecting one paper clip for each individual exterminated by the Nazis. Despite the fact that they had previously been unaware of and unfamiliar with the Holocaust, their dedication was absolute. Their plan was simple but profound. Three years later, having exceeded their target with more than 27 million paper clips from donors around the world, including Bill Clinton, George Bush, Bill Cosby and Tom Hanks, the school opened it’s permanent memorial to victims of the holocaust – a cattle truck, which transported victims to Auschwitz, filled with 11 million paper clips.

Paper Clips has picked up numerous audience awards at international film festivals and is an unforgettable illustration of how a committed group of people can change the world, one classroom at a time.
