About Limmud

Limmud is one of the most exciting and innovative educational organisations in the British-Jewish community. Over 5,000 people, from every walk of life, background, religious affiliation and age attended at least one Limmud event in 2006 - and over 20,000 have attended a Limmud event since it began over 25 years ago. Organised almost entirely by over 500 volunteers, the Limmud model of cross-communal Jewish education has been replicated throughout the world. Limmud works with the 15 Limmud International Groups from all around the world (from the Former Soviet Union to New York) who have imported the Limmud model into their own communities. We aim to enable each participant to go one step further on their own Jewish journey by offering access to some of the world's most dynamic Jewish educators, performers and teachers. They use all educational styles including lectures, workshops, text-study sessions, film, meditation, discussions, exhibits and performances to ensure that there is always ‘something for everyone'. Indeed, the content of a typical Limmud event is as diverse as its participants.

About Limmudfest

The August Bank Holiday Weekend is the Limmudfest Bank Holiday Weekend when a unique Jewish community is created to come alive with music, festivities, learning, culture and friendship. A magical recipe of art, tradition, religion, spirituality and Jewish life is sprinkled with creativity, and served to around 500 participants from all backgrounds, religious affiliations and age groups, in the calm of the countryside.

Singles, couples and families are all very welcome, with special kids’ programmes, a crèche and babysitting all provided. Most participants camp, although bedrooms are available too.

Whatever your age, approach to Judaism or areas of interest, we aim to offer an experience you will learn from and enjoy. We programme courses and individual sessions throughout the day and into the evening, with entertainment including music, comedy, film and theatre. You can also take advantage of the extensive grounds – whether that means engaging in a game of rounders, finding a quiet area to discuss Torah, or having a conversation with the cows in the next field. Failing that you can just sit back and enjoy the stunning views you get from being in the heart of the Peak District National Park.

Limmudfest is a real Limmud success story – founded, inspired and created entirely by volunteers, Limmudfest has grown by over 30% each year for its first three years and has fast become a fixture in the community’s calendar.
