SECAUCUS, NJ (July 2007)— Do you enjoy cooking ethnic cuisine? Then here is the contest for you. There is a new ethnic trend on the block- Simply Kosher! Just as other ethnic foods have gained great popularity, such as Mexican, Italian, Japanese and French, so has Jewish food. Kosher meals of the twentieth century are far from mundane and have moved away from the traditional matzo ball soup. Almost any favorite dish you, a friend or family member enjoys can be adapted to meet kosher guidelines and standards.

It’s easy to enter the 2nd Annual Simply Manischewitz Cook-Off. Enter your recipe online at www.manischewitz.com or download the entry form and mail to the address below. The website also provides simple kosher guidelines. A judging panel will pick 30 semi-finalists to compete live in one of the three regional cook-offs (Chicago (11/1); Philadelphia (11/29) and San Francisco (12/20). Two semi-finalists from each regional competition (6 in total) will fly to New York City in February 7, 2008 for the finale! Entries must be received by Sept. 21, 2007.

“In our first year, we had more than 3,000 entries that spanned the country from people of all ages, races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds; that excitement has inspired us to continue this competition,” said Jeremy J. Fingerman, President and CEO of R.A.B. Food Group, LLC. “This year, we are proud to gain even more momentum.”

How it works

The Simply Kosher Cook-Off invites U.S. residents 18 or older to submit an original, easy-to make entrée for this judged competition. All recipes must be original, must be kosher, have no more than a total of eight ingredients and be prepared and cooked in one hour. For official contest details and to register, log onto www.manischewitz.com and complete the official entry form online and submit a recipe or enter by mail: Simply Kosher Cook-Off, c/o BHGPR, 546 Valley Road Upper Montclair, NJ 07043. Recipes entered online or mailed must be received by September 21, 2007.

Thirty semi-finalists will be selected to compete in one of three regions including: Chicago (11/1); Philadelphia (11/29) and San Francisco (12/20). Each semi-finalist can select their regional market of preference, if chosen. A judging panel will choose 27 semi-finalists. Three, “People’s Choice” semi-finalists will be chosen by America through online voting, please visit www.manischewitz.com for more details.

Six finalists will compete in the New York City finals in February 7, 2008 and one Grand Prize Winner will be selected. A panel of food experts will judge the recipes based on the following criteria: taste, 50%; ease of preparation, 20%; appearance, 15%; and originality, 15%.

“I am honored to be the first Simply Kosher Cook-Off National Champion”, said Candace McMenamin from Lexington, SC. “This competition gave me the chance to show off my kosher cooking skills even though I wasn’t raised in a kosher environment.”
