DOUBLECHAI.COM: A PLACE FOR JEWISH WIDOWS & WIDOWERS PARTNERS WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF JEWISH FAMILY & CHILDREN'S AGENCIES
Newark, DE (09/24/08) -- The Association of Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies (AJFCA) and DoubleChai.com, LLC (DOUBLECHAI.COM) are pleased to announce the official launch of DoubleChai.com: A place for Jewish widows & widowers (http://www.doublechai.com).
DoubleChai.com is a social and community networking website that provides both the space and the tools for members of the Jewish partner-loss community to share experiences, meet friends, heal and grow. DoubleChai.com is a free service.
Harry Cook, founder of DoubleChai.com: A place for Jewish widows & widowers, saw an unmet need in the Jewish community after his father's death as he witnessed his mother's grief experience, "in the months following his passing, my mother was having a difficult time reintegrating socially and had few outlets where she felt comfortable grieving. A widowed spouse needs to process their grief and eventually find new ways to integrate into a changed social environment. They are suddenly navigating this world as a single or solo person and in many cases need the kind of support that can only come from a person who has been through a similar loss experience. With DoubleChai.com, they now how a vehicle to make this happen," Mr. Cook said.
DoubleChai.com is a place where members help one another heal, honor and share the memories of their loved ones, express grief experiences and reconnect with the very human need for companionship, friendship, community and even love. DoubleChai.com members are able to chat, blog, post photos and videos, take part in discussions and join groups according to their needs and enhance their network of friends.
Bert Goldberg, President and CEO of The Association of Jewish Family & Children's Agencies believes the mission of DoubleChai.com is crucial and its platform is one that Jewish human service agencies should embrace to further fulfill their service mission, "I believe that DoubleChai.com will serve as a powerful adjunct to the traditional bereavement resources provided by local synagogues and JF&CS agencies because it is open 24/7, and the initial distance the web provides enables members to discuss topics in a depth and scope that they might not at first feel comfortable doing face to face. If one were to take a look at the 'message walls' on some DoubleChai.com member profile pages this concept is clearly at work. I'd like to encourage all Jewish human service agencies to take advantage of this tool by creating organizational profiles because the people we want to reach at one of the most critical points in their lives are going to be here before they walk through our doors," Mr. Goldberg said.
DoubleChai.com: A place for Jewish widows & widowers has members from across the United States, Canada, Israel and the United Kingdom. Regardless of their levels of Jewish observance, all members of DoubleChai.com have been through the painful reality of losing a partner. DoubleChai.com is the place where members help one another heal, honor and share the memories of their loved ones, express grief experiences and reconnect with the very human need for companionship, friendship, and community.
The Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies – with the motto "We help Jews here at home" -- is a membership organization of over 140 Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies, and specialized Jewish human service agencies, in the United States and Canada. Member JF&CS agencies provide social services to children, adults and the elderly in the Jewish and general community. Tracing their roots back to the 19th century, JF&CS agencies began by assisting Jewish refugees and immigrants, orphans, the poor and the needy. Today, JF&CS agencies continue to provide preventative as well as social services to people of all ages and to those with special needs.
