February 28 2007 (Jewswire.com) - Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls School in Stamford Hill has achieved the top marks in the country for Value Added, Key Stage Two to Three from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). These results represent the incredible progress which has been made by the schools pupils’ between these different stages of their education.

Last year, Yesodey Hatorah school achieved a glowing testimony in its Ofsted report and saw two of its pupils come in the top ten in the country for their GCSE citizenship exams and one pupil in the top five for Business and Computer Systems GCSE. The school joined the maintained sector in 2005 and was officially opened by Prime Minister Tony Blair in November following its relocation to a purpose built, state-of-the-art building.

On hearing the news from the DfES, Principal of Yesodey Hatorah, Rabbi Avrohom Pinter said: “Our school was firmly founded upon the Charedi (Orthodox) Jewish ethos which, alongside an uncompromising commitment to its religious studies, places great emphasis on citizenship, loyalty and individual responsibility. We are incredibly proud of all of our staff and students who show absolute dedication to the school’s values.

“These outstanding results demonstrate that our model of a faith school actually works.”

Joe Lobenstein, MBE, chairman of the governors, added: “The school teaches a strong Jewish curriculum alongside the traditional national curriculum.

“We believe that it is this integration that is behind our consistently impressive results.”

When opening the school, Mr Blair said: “Marrying Judaism with the basic purpose of education is exactly the right blend of the values that you believe in and the values that in the end, must motivate and govern the whole of our country and society.”
