February 21 2007 (Jewswire.com) - British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel’s (BFAMI) Gala dinner will be held at the Banqueting House, Whitehall on 6th March and attended by over 300 major art collectors from London and abroad. The highlight of the evening will be an auction of works by international contemporary artists, previews will be held at Christie’s, St James’s galleries from 28th February, www.christies.com. Bidding is also available on line at www.hammersite.com.
This year around 90 artists have donated work for the auction including Damien Hirst, Sam Taylor Wood, Zadok Ben David, Catherine Yass, Cerith Wyn Evans, Gerry Judah, Ori Gersht and John Bellany. A portrait sitting with David Bailey is to be auctioned on the night and American artist, Doug Fishbone, will be showing his performance based work during the evening.
BFAMI are delighted that Jussi Pylkkänen, President of Christie’s Europe and International Director of Impressionist and Modern Paintings has agreed to be the auctioneer for the evening.
BFAMI supports the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, The Tel Aviv Museum of Art as well as smaller museums around the country. The money raised funds art classes, school visits and many educational programmes which touch the lives of thousands of young people, Jewish, Muslim and Christian from all social classes. The museums play a central creative role for children in Israeli life.
